Body Waxing

Here at MILAN, we use specialist waxing products which are Hot Wax and Cream Wax for body waxing.  These specialised formulas reduce discomfort and irritation, and allow for detailed waxing leaving the skin beautifully smooth and soft.

Hot Wax

Hot wax is ideal for use over smaller and more sensitive areas of the skin. It is perfect for any short and stubborn hair on any part of the face and body, as short as 1 mm! Hot wax is spread along the skin and once dried in a few seconds, it is easily removed by lifting the corner with your fingers and pulled against the hair grain. The benefits include less ingrown hairs, less breakage and longer regrowth periods. The advantages of hot wax are that they promote skin hydration with all its natural and soothing ingredients which leaves your skin feeling smooth and completely hair-free, hence making them more suitable for more sensitive skin. Hot wax also lessens the chance of skin reddening. It can also be reapplied a few times without causing discomfort.

Strip Wax

Also called softwax, this is spread in a thin layer on the area being waxed. Ideal for larger areas of the body like the back, arms and legs. It is applied directly onto the skin with a wooden or metal spatula. Then a strip of cloth is pressed over it and pulled off in the opposite direction of hair growth. Soft wax is ideal for removing tiny, fine hair (and dead surface skin) to give you smooth skin instantly. Strip wax provides a speedy application with extra strong grip, no sticky residue and no skin drag. The advantages of strip wax is that it is ideal for longer parts of the body.

Cream Wax

Cream Wax melts at a lower temperature allowing for a more comfortable application, particularly on sensitive skin. The thinner application of cream wax aids in the removal of unwanted hair and can be applied on the same spot twice. Cream wax can provide fast results with minimum tugging by spreading a thin layer of wax, pressuring the muslin strip down, and pulling it in one swift, horizontal motion. This makes it a perfect solution for armpits or a Brazilian wax. In addition, cream wax leaves skin silky smooth with no wax residue.

Our highly skilled therapists will also ensure you leave with professional aftercare advice on how to keep your skin smoother for longer.

Hair Length

If you’ve been shaving try and leave around three weeks growth to get the very best results. Ideally hair should be as long as a grain of rice but don’t worry if it is longer than that. When people trim before an appointment, they often cut the hair too short, so it’s best to leave it to the professionals. You would need to get waxed roughly every 4-6 weeks so if you have a special occasion coming up such as a wedding or holiday, the best plan is to get a few waxes done in the run-up to achieve the best possible result and ensure it lasts as long as possible.

Does it Hurt?

Getting waxed regularly (every four to six weeks) can help to minimise any pain. The more you go, the finer the hairs will become and the less pain you will experience. Avoid caffeine and don’t take any painkillers beforehand (ironically they can make you more sensitive). Also, to lower your chances of a painful experience, ensure that you book a wax with our experienced therapist who knows what they’re doing. Try not to trim or shave in between waxes, as this can make hair tougher and your next wax more painful.

A lot of the pain associated with waxing has to do with a build-up of anxiety. Try deep breathing, ask for your favourite music to be put on and concentrate on relaxing as much as you can.

When might I be more sensitive?

It’s totally up to you when you book your wax, and it’s not the case for everyone, but some women find that they’re more sensitive to pain just before and during their time of the month- the brain perceives pain differently throughout the menstrual cycle. Of course this isn’t just limited to your intimate area but all parts of the body, including the face.

Can you still get a wax if you have sensitive skin?

Yes you can – we’ve developed our own technique and have a variety of equipment and products for very sensitive skin in mind. One of the most important factors for those with delicate skin to be sure that you have received clear aftercare instructions, and to let your therapist know of any concerns that you may have so that they can give you the best advice to suit your skin.

We provide a range of intimate waxing services for ladies using our unique method and specialist wax designed to ensure minimum discomfort with perfect results every time.  There are four options that we offer to suit your preferred style, which are Bikini, Playboy, Brazilian and Hollywood.

Bikini

The bikini is exactly as the name would suggest, a tidy up of the top and around the edges. A good option if you want to keep things on the natural side, but prefer a little more definition. Hair is removed from anywhere outside of a modest panty line – so around the tops of thighs and any hair above your knickers.

Playboy

A Playboy wax differs from other styles like a Brazilian as most of the hair is taken from around the front and sides, but the middle (labia) and around the back is left alone.

If you want down there to be smooth and clean of hair, without feeling too bare, Playboy is the way to go.

The shape of the hair at the front is totally up to you, but the landing strip is a classic option.

Brazilian

Brazilian waxes are one of the most popular options. Unlike the Playboy version, when you go Brazilian the hair is taken off the top and sides of the bikini line, but also all the way under. A “landing strip” of hair is left on the mons pubis (the top of your pubic bone). This is usually a strip of hair (i.e. a rectangular shape) but some customers prefer a triangle.

Hollywood

A Hollywood wax is where all pubic hair is removed from the whole intimate area, including the labia, perineum as well as from the mons pubis. So to put it another way, absolutely all hair is removed from on top, underneath and around the back, leaving you completely smooth.

Waxing damages your hair follicles which is actually not a bad thing as it reduces the growth of hair and over time your face will be completely hair-free – a hair free face – the dream!

Your waxing can last 3 to 6 weeks depending on your hair re-growth. In most cases, hair growth is minimal during the first week or two and noticeably increases in the third and fourth week.

To understand this, you need to understand the basics of the hair regrowth cycle, which is made up of three main phases.

1st Stage – Anagen. This is the active, growing phase of hair and is by far the best time to get a wax. When anagen hair is removed, the waxed area remains hair-free for longer because the hair was removed at its earliest, or youngest stage of development. Waxing anagen hair should also eventually lead to a reduction in regrowth. If the hair is repeatedly removed from the full depth of the follicle, the structures that surround the hair follicle which are responsible for hair growth will eventually weaken.

2nd stage – Catagen. The catagen phase signifies the end of the active growth of a hair. During this short, transitional phase, the lower part of the hair is cut off from its blood supply and from the cells that produce new hair, and what is called a club hair starts to be formed.

3rd stage – Telogen: The hair follicle enters its third and final phase, called telogen as the club hair is completely formed. This is the resting phase, during which the old hair falls out in preparation for the development of a new anagen hair. This is the worst time to get a wax because during this stage, brand new anagen hair may already be developing below the existing visible surface hair, which won’t be picked up by your wax. The results of your treatment therefore won’t last as long, because even though all of the old hair was removed, new hair could start to break through your skin soon after your treatment. (You can tell when you have pulled out hair during the telogen stage, because you can see the white bulb at the hair’s root).

So in order to get the best results, it is vital that you establish a regular routine for your waxing to ensure that you try and catch the hair in the anagen growth phase every time you come and get nkd. The best and easiest way to train the hair on any given body part into a growth cycle is to do what we recommend new clients do, and come every 3 – 4 weeks for a few waxes. During this time, you may notice that the waxed area actually starts to look even hairier than it did before, which is another reason why winter really is the best time to get into this cycle! But this is good, because it means that all of your hair is coming through at once, instead of at different times. Once you get to that stage and if you keep the routine up (by coming every 4 – 6 weeks for a wax), only then will you start to notice longer-lasting and better results from every treatment.
